Beacon is located 320kms from Perth in the North Eastern Wheatbelt. The Midlands District Education Office is 220kms away. Enrolment is currently 43 students from Kindergarten to Year 7 with a predominant number of students coming from farms within the area. The town has a community funded Cooperative running the general store, which includes a Post Office, various farm centred service businesses, community recreation complex and a community hall which houses the Beacon Telecentre and Playground. A wide range of sport is played in Beacon. Non-sporting activities include Theatre Arts and CWA. The town has no hotel, but has a licensed club. A Silver Chain Clinic serves the town and the nearest hospital is at Kununoppin, some 90kms away. There are two churches, Roman Catholic and Anglican. These two groups contribute positively to the curriculum provision and welfare of the school.

There is no public transport to or from Beacon. The nearest town is Bencubbin, which is 42kms away. Although Beacon is a considerable distance from a major town it is this isolation which gives the school its significant involvement and which contributes to the strong community ownership of the school and its students.

The school has an enthusiastic and vibrant staff and has integrated many wonderful programs such as: Retention and Participation Program, Students at Educational Risk, Rural Intergration Program. We have a Music specialist and a new formed School Band. LOTE isprovided by an intinerant LOTE specialist teacher in the language of Italian The teaching staff have all chosen to work at Beacon School and have made the community part of their life. Staff have been encouraged to take an active role in many areas of school life e.g. Learning Area Coordinators and Curriculum Leaders. The full range of curriculum subjects is available with Art, Physical Education and Learning Technology all provided for within the staffing roles.
A strong Student Services team of Occupational Therapist, School Psychologist and Speech Pathologist provide ongoing support for children in need.

The school has two bus runs which are contracted to the one supplier. The children at the extremes of the bus run travel the maximum 90 minutes to school each day.

The school has good facilities; an undercover assembly area completed in 1999. In 1994-95 the school community reconstructed the main Wialki School building on our school site and it is now used as a Library/Resource Centre. Three well equipped classrooms (one of which is a multipurpose computer lab and music room), a large teacher preparation room, staff room, Principal's office, general office and storerooms constitute the main building.

The School Council is actively involved in all decision-making and plays a major role in the setting of our objectives.

The school has been recognised with Waterwise Accreditation.

In May 2000 our Botanical Park was opened. This is a joint initiative with the community. This park features local endangered tree species. Many of these trees were grown by the children from seed, which they collected under the supervision of our local Landcare Officer.
