| Beachlands Primary, the smallest of the government schools within the City of Geraldton, provides a positive and welcoming environment to its students. Declining enrolments in recent years has seen its numbers reduced to a comfortable level with its size lending itself to the school motto of 'Sharing and Caring'. Of the students who enrol at Beachlands in Year 1 approximately 50% go onto graduate from the school. This provides a strong base on which a sense of community is built. Transience is an accepted norm with up to 25% of students coming and going through a school year. The school has in place academic profiling tools to assist students to quickly engage in targeted learning plans to meet their individual needs. A recent trend is the increased enrolment of indigenous students, up to 50%. This has challenged the school to review its practices and ensure its delivery of teaching and learning is inclusive. Off Site is the Meekawaya Kindergarten that provides schooling for up to 40 Indigenous students from across Geraldton. Initially a joint venture between Aboriginal representative bodies and government departments of Education and enjoys strong support from the community. Proud of its history, Beachlands continues to value the community as its most important asset and works hard with it to ensure a safe and positive learning environment that optimises each child's potential to learn. | ||||
