| OUR SCHOOL Bateman Primary is a special school with a fantastic atmosphere. This atmosphere is generated by an inclusive school philosophy that has been developed over many years. Education is a partnership between the home and the school and to that end parents are very welcome and in fact encouraged to participate in the school education environment. The school is also blessed with a wonderful physical environment that provides an ambience which promotes a positive feeling about being at school. The school is located 14km south of Perth City. It was established in 1970 as an open plan school and at present has an enrolment of around 360 students. The school is developed around two large teaching blocks and a library. Each block has a number of teaching areas, separate toilets and multi-purpose areas for art and technology and enterprise activities. The school is very well resourced with large open playing fields, covered playgrounds and adventure areas, extensive hands-on teaching materials, integrated computing facilities and a modern library. There is also a native bush area next to the basketball courts that is being environmentally re-developed by the students PROGRAMS Bateman Primary's learning program is based on the values as prescribed in the Curriculum Framework and the eight learning areas (English, Mathematics, Society and Environment, Science, Languages other than English - Japanese, The Arts, Health and Physical Education, Technology and Enterprise). All students will be exposed to each aspect of the curriculum throughout their time at the school. In conjunction with our strong commitment to developing every child to his/her academic potential the school places great emphasis on pastoral care and the development of strong values. Bateman has recently undertaken the program known as 'You Can Do It' to help achieve these goals, and will also continue to follow the Protective Behaviours program to further consolidate the social development of students at Bateman. SPECIAL FEATURES An outstanding feature of the school is the development of a whole school community which includes teachers, support staff, parents and children. The school has an extremely active parent body which has contributed over many years to assist in the acquisition of many 'extra' facilities. They have funded the air-conditioning of all teaching areas, several playground areas, portable outdoor shades and a substantial annual grant to the Resource Centre for books etc. Bateman has a LAP program which is designed to assist students from Years 1 to 3 with learning difficulties. Under the guidance of a teaching staff member, a large number of parents provide one-to-one assistance to these children. The program has been operating very successfully for many years. Bateman Primary School has forged a strong link with the Huijia High School in Beijing, China. Each year a number of Chinese students attend Bateman for a term at a time. The cross-cultural ties made by this activity are of great benefit to all who take part. STAFF AND STUDENTS The staff at Bateman has a great deal of experience. We are fortunate to have a Level Three Teacher, with the majority of all other teachers at the Advanced Skill Teacher's level. This experience combined with a dedicated support staff including a registrar, school officers, teacher aides and gardener provide an ideal learning climate for the children. The students have continued to perform well in system wide tests such as WALNA and for PEAC. The children are also encouraged to participate in a variety of educational challenges and competitions. | ||||
