| The purpose of Bambara Primary School is to develop the children's cognitive, social, physical, cultural and moral skills and attitudes by providing a positive educational environment and programs of learning consistent with Curriculum Framework overarching learning outcomes and learning area outcome statements. The school is located in the suburb of Padbury which has been established for around thirty years. A dedicated group of parents provide excellent support for our operations through the School Council, Parents and Citizens' Association and involvement in committees and classroom assistance. It is through this support that Bambara Primary School is a very well resourced school. Bambara Primary School is classified by the number of students as a Level 4A school with a Principal and one Deputy Principal. School enrolment is currently at 204 students from Pre Primary to Year 7. There is an allocation of the equivalent of twelve fulltime teaching staff for instruction in eight primary classrooms from Pre-Primary to Year Seven. Teachers are very experienced with two being Level 3 classroom teachers and four teachers having Advanced Skills Teacher status. Most of the classes are of mixed year levels. Part-time specialist teaching is provided in the areas of Language Other Than English (LOTE, Japanese), Physical Education and Music. The non-teaching staff consists of a full time Registrar; and part-time School Assistant, Library Assistant, Junior Primary Teachers' Assistant, two Special Needs Assistants, two Teachers' Educational Assistants in the Pre Primary, a Head Cleaner and two part-time Cleaners and a Gardener/Handyman. The work done by these non-teaching staff contributes greatly to the efficiency of Bambara Primary School. Opening in 1978, Bambara Primary School is located in the north western corner of the suburb of Padbury which is about 20kms north of Perth. Of a paired room open design, the school currently has fourteen classrooms and a double unit pre primary centre. The two pre primary units and seven of the classrooms are currently occupied for classes of students. Of the other classrooms, one is used by the district Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) group, and there is a Music Room, a Languages Other Than English (LOTE) room, a Technology and Enterprise tool/work room and a Mathematics problem solving room. One room is leased to an out of school care group for after school use and holiday use. Within one teaching block a computer laboratory has been established with fifteen IBM computers, a data projector, laser printer, scanner and CD burner. Each classroom is equipped with up to three IBM computers and the whole school is networked and linked to the Internet. An administration block, remodelled in 1996, a library resource centre and a covered assembly area complete the buildings. The school grounds and gardens are well developed and maintained following a grounds development plan, developed in cooperation with our committed gardener and the environment group. Within the school there are several mixed classes. Support in literacy is provided from Years 2 - 7 by the principal and deputy principal during the morning sessions. A Support-a-Reader program runs four days a week with volunteer parent helpers. The two Year 2/3 class teachers are working as a team while the two Year 5/6 classes have developmental groupings for Mathematics and English. The School timetable is organised to enable an early closure each Wednesday for teachers to facilitate collaborative and curriculum meetings. The school has an active School Council of seven members. Of these members, there are two elected teacher representatives, three elected parent/carer representatives - two elected for two years and one for one year, a nominated representative from the Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) and the principal, who make up the council. The Council meets at least once a term to discuss issues of concern, assess information and data from the school reporting systems, ratify policy, determine school priorities for the coming year and verify the school development plan. Our P & C Association is a small but active group of committed parents/carers who work exceedingly hard to raise funds to support school programs. These volunteers also give of their time and energies to assist staff in classrooms, on excursions and with various activities throughout the year. Staff meetings are held on a regular basis twice a term for staff to input policy and programs, to discuss issues of concern and raise initiatives for the benefit of the students. The group of seven peer-elected student Prefects meet weekly with the principal to raise student concerns and ideas for debate. | ||||
