| The Bakers Hill Primary School is a small Level 4 school located in beautiful rural surroundings just off Great Eastern Highway, approximately 75 kms from Perth. The school grounds provide an attractive setting for the school, comprising of a pleasant mix of undulating land with natural bush and green lawns, native shrubs and shady trees with outdoor settings. The buildings are also an interesting mix with the teaching areas being accommodated in a new brick building constructed in 1998. 2005 has seen the arrival of a transportable ECE unit to cater for the increasing enrolments in the K-PP area. The administration area and library (converted classroom) are located in a remaining section of the original building. There is an undercover assembly area. The staff room, which is in a separate building, was painted and decorated by all the students as part of a whole school art project in 2004. School enrolments are growing steadily and there are six classes, all of which are grouped. There is a large cohort of students coming through in the Kindergarten - Pre-Primary years that reflects the increase in the Bakers Hill population. A number of subdivisions comprising of small acreages in the locality, has resulted in the steady increase in school numbers as families take up a 'sea change' in this rural environment. Two school bus runs transport children from the more outer-lying areas. The school has earned an excellent reputation as a small caring community that enjoys strong support from its parent organisations, the P&C and School Council. Programs offered at the school include the eight learning areas and Italian is taught in LOTE. Literacy has a very strong focus and CLNP and ISIEP funding have been used to implement literacy programs for children with special needs in this area. Health & Physical Education provide an emphasis on good nutrition, a wide range of sporting skills and activities including regular interschool sporting fixtures. There is a commitment to values across the curriculum and the school actively promotes the Virtues Program. This program fits into the 'Friendly Schools & Families'Program that has been established as a framework for the BMIS. Information Technology has a strong focus and is integrated across many of the learning areas. A major upgrade of computers has been undertaken and has further improved the capacity of the equipment and increased the number so there is a ratio of one computer to every five students. A number of students are gaining support and enjoyment from the mentors involved in the School Volunteer Program that operates at the school. Over the years the staff has built a strong reputation for its competency, teamwork, cooperation and collaborative planning. Minimum staff changes have provided the school with stability and enabled the staff members to provide consistency, experience and enthusiasm along with a good understanding of their community. The P&C and School Council members actively support the school. The school also benefits from the assistance provided by a number of parents who give their time to help out in classrooms and with sporting events. The school now has a SBCLO to further strengthen school-community links. Staff, parents and students at Bakers Hill PS have a firm belief in the school motto, 'working to create a safe and happy community of learners'. | ||||
