| Australind Primary School is located in an undulating bushland setting close to the banks of the Brunswick River on the outskirts of the City of Bunbury. Australind is a suburb adjoining a major estuary and is approximately 200 kilometers south of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. The suburb of Australind is a delightful alternative for many families wanting ready access to the natural features of waterways and surrounding bushland and nearby forest environment, while having first class regional city facilities at their doorstep. A growing trend of 'Seachange' appears to be drawing many families to the area. Australind Primary caters for a number of new rapidly growing land developments. The school opened its door in 1980 with significant building additions completed in 1989. Student enrolments are on the increase with about 390 students attending the school in early 2005. Australind Primary and Senior High Schools are adjacent and have a happy and close liaison, and together aim to provide a first class education for students from kindergarten to year 12. Most of the parent body of Australind students are self-employed or work in professional fields and are very willing to assist the school in a variety of ways. The school has a committed Parents & Citizens Association which meets once a term and works hard to provide extra resources and facilities for the school. The P & C also conducts the school canteen as well as a clothing shop. The school has a close partnership with most parents, believing that educating children is a three way partnership: student-teacher-parent. STAFFING PROFILE Australind Primary School is a preferred location for staff. The staff consists of enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced personnel and is a happy blend of recent arrivals and people with long associations with the school. In 2005 specialist teaching areas including Physical Education, Visual Arts, Information Technology and French (year 3 to 7 students). Specialist teachers of Instrumental Music provide tuition for selected students from years six and seven. SPECIAL FEATURES In 2005 the school has been able to offer an Active After School Communities program for its students. This program which consists of fun physical activities is being offered twice per week and run in conjunction with the Australian Sports Commission. The school has purpose built facilities supporting many learning areas including an art room (with a kiln), a fully automated resource center with a substantial book collection and a bank of networked computers. A fully enclosed assembly area also adds to the facilities for students. Utilizing the adjoining Senior High School's Performing Arts Center instrumental students have first class facilities. Purpose built Kindergarten and Pre Primary facilities are located on site. The school uses Technology as an important tool to learning with excellent access to IT in all rooms. SCHOOL DECISION-MAKING AND CONSULTATION The Australind Primary School Council is the school's decision-making body and consists of the Principal, staff and parents who meet each term. This group assists the school with the setting of school priorities, endorses the budget and monitors the implementation of the School Development Plan. GENERAL Australind Primary School is a very positive and cohesive school.
