Catchment Area and Community
Atwell has grown rapidly and all land division stages have now been released. Land development to the south has continued with those families being served by the Harmony Primary School. Community facilities consist of community hall, health centre, deli, shopping centre and sporting oval. A large proportion of the population are young families hence the high enrolments in the younger years.Staff Profile
A feature of Atwell Primary School is the merit selection of the staff and all teachers have a shared commitment to the School Ethos. The teachers have a wide range of experience. Some have been teaching for over 20 years yet others are at the beginning stage of their career. The average is about 9 years. We currently have about 50 teachers.

Since the school opened Outcomes Focused Education and the use of Technology have been key features of the programmes we offer. Teachers place a lot of emphasis on teaching the children how to learn effectively, and this is an important part of the pedagogical approach used at all year levels. The Curriculum Framework is well understood and is the platform upon which our curriculum development is based.

The high quality and expertise of our staff is widely acknowledged. We have many visitors who have called upon our teachers for Professional Development and work shadowing opportunities.

Teamwork is strongly emphasized throughout the School. Staff have extensive opportunities to participate in the decision making through Learning Area Teams, Teaching Teams and Planning Groups. Non-teaching staff are also valued members of the teams and play an important part in the operation of the school.

Formal leadership in the school is offered in Curriculum Development, Technology and School Administration (Deputy Principals). Level 3 teachers provide leadership through SAER, Communication and Induction, Literacy and Mathematics Development. Many other leadership opportunities are provided through special projects within the school structure.

We have full-time specialist teachers for Music, Visual Arts, LOTE (Japanese) and Physical Education and a School Psychologist for two days a week.Facilities
As a relatively new school (opened in 1998) the facilities are of a high standard. We have three permanent teaching blocks, pre-primary house, library and undercover assembly area. Since opening the school has grown from 345 (K-7) students to our current enrolment of about 950 (K-7) students. This has necessitated the addition of transportable rooms and the establishment of an off-site kindergarten. The heaviest weighting of students is in the early years and this will sustain the high enrolments for the next few years.

All areas of the school are linked with fibre-optic cable and allow us to use technology extensively for communications. Personal computers are used throughout the school. We have combined network for Administration and Curriculum use. Staff have remote access for internet and administrative work.

The school grounds are of a high standard with on-going projects to add and develop student centered play equipment and purpose built learning/play environments for the students. The number of children creates pressure on play facilities but it remains manageable.

The P & C gives strong support to the school and over recent years has contributed about $30,000 for equipment and facilities.Structure
We have a regular organizational structure in the school. Most classes are of a single year group but there are some split grades. Where possible, teachers work with their students for two years. The looping model has been very successful and has been endorsed by parents and teachers alike.

Educational leadership is guided by our Deputy Principals who have distinct roles in leading the use of Technology, the Curriculum Development and School Operations. Additional leadership opportunities are allocated to staff to enhance professional development and share their expertise with colleagues and students. Some of these roles include SAER, Assessment and Reporting, Phonemic Awareness and Development, GiR (Literacy), Integrated Curriculum, Performance and Oral Language.

Overall:
Nice groundsNot enough experienced teachers in the school. Too many new graduates and inexperienced teachers.Far too much coming and going of staff. Some experienced teachers would help this school greatly. It would add stability.

Overall:
reasonable facilities, close to home; some very good teachersexcessive encouragement of dobbers; too much movement of staff (why do so may leave); kids don't want to get on the wrong side of the deputy principal - he can hold a grudgewith a new principal and male deputy principal, this could be a really good school
