| At Ardross our Motto is 'Motivate - Educate - Celebrate'. We strive to achieve this motto in all facets of the school community. This motto was developed in 2005 in consultation with the school community and is based on our school vision which was developed early in 2005. SCHOOL VISION At Ardross Primary School we strive to support and develop enthusiastic students and instill in them a love of learning to help them reach their potential, both socially and academically, and embrace and adapt to a changing world. We aim to accomplish this through:- * supporting a dedicated and capable staff; * maintaining a welcoming and supportive school community; * developing a collaborative environment for all; * providing a diverse, inclusive and innovative curriculum; and * developing and maintaining contemporary resources and facilities.SCHOOL BACKGROUND Ardross Primary School was established some 45 years ago. The school offers an educational programme for children aged between 4 and 12 in the years Kindergarten to Year 7. The school commands a healthy respect in the local community and has a reputation for being welcoming and supportive of all students' needs. The students are well cared for and display appropriate behaviour, with almost all students regularly attired in school uniform. Performance data indicates a sound level of achievement across the majority of the student population. The school has recently celebrated many successes such as winning the Outstanding Achievement Award for Health Education at the WA Healthy Active Lifestyle Awards in 2004 and a high commendation at the same awards in 2005. In 2005 Ardross Primary School was the only Government school to have a team reach the finals of the National Futures Problem Solving Competition and the first team from WA to win a section at these National Finals. The school is also regarded as a lighthouse school in the application and integration of Learning Technologies, which is largely due to work done in previous years in the ASP Trial. The staff are highly regarded in the local community for their dedication and professionalism. The majority of the staff are very experienced, with most having taught for 15 or more years. A variety of high quality student centred teaching-learning approaches operate within the school, with high expectations set for achievement and conduct. The School employs teachers in a specialist capacity in Music, Visual Art LOTE (Japanese) and Junior Primary Physical Education . The school has a reputation for strong provision for students in the Arts which is supported by a dedicated Arts Committee consisting of parents and staff. Students have access to a School Choir and a strings orchestra. Being a Level 5 Primary there is an entitlement to the provision of a Principal and two Deputy Principals positions, though one of the Deputy Principal positions has been converted into four curriculum leader roles in recent years to support the implementation of specific priorities. The school embraces all aspects of inclusivity. We maintain a high degree of pastoral care for students to ensure they are keen and enthusiastic to attend school. To assist students who have been identified as being at educational risk in literacy and numeracy, resources have been committed to employing support staff to support the class teachers in addressing identified student needs. We cater for a number of students with disabilities. Staff are supported in providing appropriate programs for students with special needs through the appointment of a Learning Support Coordinator one day per week. The school has a well defined code of conduct and behaviour management plan that all staff follow. A whole school bullying intervention project - Friendly Schools Friendly Families has also been fully introduced across the school in the last two years and has included detailed information for parents. The school if fortunate to have a highly multicultural community, with students coming from a vast array of cultural backgrounds. The school has access to the services of a part time visiting ESL teacher and Teacher Assistants, who work across Ardross, Applecross and Mount Pleasant Primary Schools to support children in their aquisition of English skills. In 2006 the school is sharing the services of a part time Community Liaison Officer with other local schools to promote the school and to enhance School and Community links. Students are fortunate to have access to quality playing areas including grassed lawns, a large oval, a covered assembly area and two basketball/netball courts. A recently redeveloped playground was constructed using an innovative design that promotes interactive play and features facilities such as a climbing wall. Playground improvements in the Early Childhood centres are also well under way. The playground improvement project will continue to develop in the future with further stages planned in coming years and has been made possible by the fundraising conducted by the Parents and Citizens Association. The school has a very active School Council and P&C Association who are involved in many aspects of the School's operation. Parent involvement is high in all facets of schooling, with the parents and community supportive of the school's vision and future directions. The Parents and Citizens' Association provides excellent support for the school, in particular with fundraising for resources, and have provided a range of equipment and resources to the school including the air conditioning, curriculum resources and playground equipment. A School Council is elected annually, comprising 6 Parents, 4 Teachers and the Principal. This group provides a forum for parental or staff input into the major areas of community involvement in school policy and direction. The keen parental aspirations overall provide for a healthy involvement in the school which in turn can be very rewarding for the outstanding commitment given by our staff. | ||||
