| Alinjarra Primary School which opened in 1988 is situated at the eastern end of the suburb of Alexander Heights. The school is entering its second decade and has remained stable in enrolment for the last five years. The school offers a full range of facilities. Parents are very supportive, offering practical assistance, maintaining an active P&C and responding well to efforts to improve both involvement and their school's resources. Their efforts in the school are highly valued and have made a significant contribution to the school. In response to the expectations of the local community the school focuses on academic progress, recognition of children's needs, care for children with learning difficulties and the provision of a safe, caring learning environment. Our student population displays great enjoyment in Art/Craft, Music Literature, Drama and Dance - the cultural pursuits. A wide range of learning activities is provided. Boys' needs are given special consideration in the employment of strategies in the academic and social sphere. The school provides a comfortable, supportive and friendly environment for its students to grow. The students show interest in sport, technology and the environment. The staff, led by a Principal and two Deputies, is a team of experienced teachers with an average tenure at Alinjarra of 5.8 years. Most staff members have between ten and twenty years of teaching experience. A professional, collegiate ethos characterises this group. Non-teaching staff include a Registrar, School Officer, Library Officer, a Junior Primary Teacher Assistant, 5 Early Childhood Assistants, 4 Special Assistants for Children with Disabilities, a Gardener and 4 Cleaners. The school also has the services of a school psychologist (one day per week) and a school nurse (on demand). Set in pleasant native gardens Alinjarra Primary School comprises 3 teaching blocks and a Resource Block containing Library, and Art rooms. It has a cluster of Early Childhood units, 3 of which are air conditioned transportable units around a central play space. The Library is automated and has a bank of computers. The school is on Ednet and connected to the Internet on www.aps@alinjrraps.wa.edu.au Decision making and consultation occurs through the School Council, Student Council and the P&C Association. A number of committees including finance, professional development, learning technologies, oral language and social skills priority operate at the school. | ||||
