| Adam Road Primary School was opened on 6th February 1967 with 78 years 1 and 2 children. Over the years the numbers rapidly increased for the school to gain 1A status (now level 5). At present there are 404 students attending years 1-7, 54 students attending full time Pre Primary and 40 students attending 4-year-old kindergarten. The school has 16 classrooms and a well-established Library Resource Centre. The school has a modern administration centre and it also boasts of fully equipped music and art/craft rooms. The school has 15 classes including three mixed year levels. Specialist teachers include music, art/craft and Italian. All teachers are given assistance from support teachers to help develop maximum student outcomes. The school's Administrative Team is organised so that all year levels are represented at Administrative Team meetings. Administrative Team meetings are held weekly, whilst sub-school meetings are held when required. Priorities in the School Development Plan are developed and implemented by management committees made up of staff members. Priority areas for 2005 are: Curriculum Improvement Numeracy Inclusivity Science All staff at the school are encouraged to take on 'staff responsibilities'. School decisions are made through staff input and discussions and reflect collaborative decision making where possible. The school has very good grassed playing areas and reasonable gardens. Part of the school's ground development program is to upgrade the garden appearance of the school. Through fund-raising by the P&C, the playground equipment has been recently upgraded. Adjoining the oval, the school has access to a swampland which has been developed by students of Newton Moore Senior High School. This is used by the school for educational learning experiences. The children from Adam Road Primary School come from varied home backgrounds. The large majority of children are Australian by family origin. Students are from mostly middle class family backgrounds although there are a number from single parent, unemployed and partly employed families. The academic ability of the children represents a typical school of average academic ability - a range of low to high with the majority of children in the middle range group. Attendance at the school is very good with figures showing student attendance is well above the State average. The student population is very stable with very little short term transiency. Long term it appears that the student numbers will continue to decrease due to the opening up of the Dalyellup Estate school which will draw heavily on the students that Adam Road presently gets from Stratham, Gelorup and College Grove areas. The school has access to the Bunbury District Education Office. The District Education Office provides professional development to schools and teachers through itsCurriculum and School Services Section. THE PARENTS - COMMUNITY The school operates a very active Parent and Citizen Association that has three main functions: 1. Canteen Management 2. Uniform shop Management 3. Fundraising. Meetings are held mothly alternating between day- time and evening meetings in order to give as many parents as possible the opportunity to be involved. The average attendance at meetings is approximately 18-20. As with most organisations, the P&C is supported by a small group of very hard workers. Through their efforsts the P&C is able to contribute approximately $15 000 each year to school projects. SCHOOL COUNCIL This was first formed in 1992, known then as The School Decision Making Group. The School Council is made up of four school community members, four teaching staff and the Principal who holds an ex-officio position. The Council meets once a term. It operates in an advisory capacaity with the added responsibility of endorsing the School Budget and School Development Plan. CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION Fortnightly newsletter. P&C Association. Parent Nights. Parent Meetings. School Council Parents welcomed into the school at all times. Parent/Teacher interviews are encouraged.
