Yennora Public School provides a unique small-school environment within a heavily urbanised and industrialised setting in western Sydney. The 140 students represent a wide range of cultural groups with approximately 72% from Non English speaking backgrounds. A culture of inclusiveness and involvement characterises the school allowing the students opportunities to participate in a wide range of initiatives despite its small population. There is a strong commitment to improving the Literacy and Numeracy standards of all students and a number of specific programs have been implemented to meet these objectives. For the last thirteen years, the school had been recognised and funded under the Disadvantaged Schools Program, although this support has been withdrawn for 2001.
