| Nicholson Street School is situated on the eastern tip of the Balmain peninsula facing Sydney Harbour, and has been an integral part of this area since its foundation in 1883. The school's aim is to provide a challenging and creative education within a secure learning environment which will develop each child's intellectual, emotional, physical and social needs to their fullest potential. It aims to develop the whole child within a learning environment where individual talents are encouraged and special needs nurtured and with the efforts of all recognised and valued. This is to be achieved by ensuring that all students are motivated towards excellence in individual endeavours, whilst developing the skills, attitudes and values necessary to become contributing members of a community and the wider society. The community has high expectations of the school and the school is responsive to the needs and aspirations of its community. Parents and staff work collaboratively to develop each child as a self-motivated, responsible and organised individual who values learning as a lifelong process. The size of the school and its pleasant environment enables the fostering of a close, family type atmosphere and caring nature. | ||||

| Small size: all the kids in all years know and play with each other. Nice / warm atmosphere. | None. Small size can be seen as an issue by some families (less kids of the same age to play with) but it is really not the case | Our son enjoys waking up every morning to go to school and is enthusiastic about learning there | ||

| It is convenient, within walking distance. Nice grounds. Pleasant enough. | No day-to-day sport. No older, experienced teachers. No full-time male teacher. | Being so small has some inherent issues that need to be addressed. | ||
