| Jerilderie Public School is an attractive, safe, happy and supportive environment where the children of Jerilderie and the surrounding farms learn to work and play together. It has comprehensive and relevant academic, social and physical programs with a strong emphasis on improving student literacy and numeracy. The school has excellent facilities for its students that include well-resourced and technologically advanced classrooms for both day-to-day work and specialist activities such as art, music and computers. A well-stocked library, set in an attractive heritage building and two smaller rooms for small group learning, add to the school's teaching and learning areas. The school is situated on the banks of the Billabong Creek. It's spacious gardens and grounds include two large playing fields, a highly utilised and shaded play equipment area, a tennis and basketball court, an outdoor amphitheatre, and a large covered outdoor learning area (COLA). The first school in Jerilderie was a tiny building in a paddock opposite the present Shire Hall. By 1877 the new school and residence were built on the present site. The infants block, staff room and new classroom were officially opened by His Excellency Sir Roden Cutler on the 26th of September, 1967. Jerilderie Public School now operates as a Kindergarten to sixth grade school in accordance with the Department of School Education requirements. | ||||
