Aldavilla Primary School is in its ninth year of development. It is located in an attractive semi-rural setting which has more urban development than in 1992. Kempsey has four large government primary schools. It is the service town for the beautiful Macleay Valley, population 26,479 (1996 Census) which has a diversity of social and cultural groups which include a significant Aboriginal population, alternative lifestyles, traditional farmers and livestock production as well as service and tourist industries. Kempsey Shire, identified as the poorest shire in NSW, has chronic unemployment and a poor self image which is being addressed by both civic and community leaders. At Aldavilla Public School the external painting of doors, barge boards and eaves has been carried out and the western windows in all home bases were tinted and air circulation vents installed in four home bases.
