At Coromandel Valley Kindergarten we believe that parents are the first and foremost teachers of their children, and the most effective learning occurs when home and kindergarten co-operate and support each other. Please feel free to discuss any aspect of your childs education with us. The Kindergarten is a locally managed DECS site. This means that the kindergarten operates under the guidelines and policies of the Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS).

We encourage childrens learning through play, providing opportunities for children to be creative, make choices, investigate, invent, explore, talk, question, socialize, imagine and develop a positive self esteem. Staff use the SA Curriculum, Standards and Accountability Framework to plan a challenging and stimulating curriculum for your child. In partnership with you we aim to develop:

Trust and confidence
A positive sense of self and a confident personal and group identity
A sense of being connected with others and their world
Competence to be intellectually inquisitive
The ability to develop a range of thinking skills
Effective communication
A sense of physical wellbeing
A range of physical competencies

Our program values childrens ability to:

Take control of their own learning
Have the freedom to manage their own time
Have opportunities to interact with people who value the quality of play
Have time for uninterrupted and self-selected activities
Have opportunities to be active and curious, quiet and reflective.

We base our planning on observations, anecdotal recordings, professional experience and staff discussions of individual children. Our curriculum encompasses all of the interactions, experiences and routines that are a part of each childs play. Staff review and evaluate the program and childrens learning each term.
