Overall:
bright environment Good facility.Carers are very young & inexperience. Not there for very long. Did not do 'hard' things such as painting so child did not bring home much artwork. The centre is very nice - just the staff.

Overall:
Big outdoor play areas accessable to each class. The facility itself seems ideal.* Badly managed & unorganised * inexperienced staff - different people every day * poor supervision * very poor hygiene - faces and hands are always dirty and runny noses are left to dry for hours. (this is enough to make me cry somedays) * recently 1 case of hand, foot and mouth disease & conjunctivitis both highly contagious. They only hung and note on the door, did not report to us individually. * high turn over of staff * no organised arts and crafts other than coloured pencils and playdough. Have never seen anything glued or painted. * Very impersonal service. I see a lot of little ones wandering around aimlessly when I pick up my child, very low energy staff not putting much effort forth. It's quite sad really, we had such high hopes. * NOT Educational - no real planning of activities or resources evident. *toys and books thrown everywhere, lots of dirt tracked in unsweeped eating areas, bins over flowing with nappies and paper towels in the changing room. Honestly the room is a total mess when I pick him up, but not just the normal toys...food mess, and playdough all over the floor, blocks everywhere. * The price is pretty high for the low quality care. The centre looks nice, and they say all the right things when you do the tour. But, we have found that it is just a very unorganised mess of a place and are trying very hard to find another place to take our child.

Overall:
The staff were wonderful with my 2 year old who took a lot of time to settle in. I can't speak highly enough of the staff. Even the relief staff are good and practice the primary care giving model very successfully. A lot better than some centres who don't help the child connect with their care givers. Great communication with parents daily morning and afternoon when dropping off and picking up children. Drawings and photos sent home regularly. Fantatic outdoor areas. There is high staff turnover - similar to other child care centres we have been to. But there are a good level of long term staff and qualified staff and there is good transition with children when a staff member leaves and early notification to parents also.Highly recommended. I am very happy with the nutrition, primary caregiving, staff and parent communication of the centre.

Overall:
The staff are extremely caring and I give them an A+ for communication, willingness to follow routines, adaptability to individual childrens needs and a loving environment. The opportunities to get outdoors for decent chunks of the day amid natural surrounds (not fake synthetic playgrounds) are extensive. The educational experiences are rich and I've noticed huge developmental jumps - often recognising things that can only have been learnt at Underdale. In the past 2 weeks my 2 year old has come home with tell tale signs of experiences including: sandpit, climbing, paint, animal figurines in toy tubs with sand & ice, playdough, timber puzzles, books, dances, music & singing - let alone decent quality food (all supplied by Underdale).

Obviously the staff have to have days off sometimes and while my children have formed bonds with all carers in the room, they still miss their favourites.

I think my 2 year old sums it up best when he doesn't want to leave.  He talks about the carers and wanting to see them the next day when I tuck him in to bed - even if he's not due to go back for 5 days! The boys come home happy, stimulated, exhausted and always having learnt from a new experience. I feel they're getting a more diverse education than they would constantly being at home.  I wouldn't have put my 7mth old into care if I hadn't experienced this place. I was disgruntled and emotional with the experience of a previous facility but this one makes me feel happy, relaxed and comfortable.  If you're not happy elsewhere, don't persevere - Lady Gowrie Underdale can heal your troubles.
